Club Rides
The main club ride is on Saturdays, we often have up to 7 groups of varying speeds and abilities so you can be assured that there is a group for you. The club also runs a midweek Chain Gang and annual club tours in the UK and Europe. Team Sidcup Cycles is affiliated to Cycling UK (formerly CTC), British Cycling and the Cycling Time Trials (CTT)
Team Sidcup Cycles is open to everyone over the age of 16; we have many experienced ride leaders who can offer advice, tips and encouragement if you are new to cycling or returning after a break. The age of our member’s ranges from 16 to over 80, we have good mix of men and women, nearly 30% of our members are female which for a mixed gender club is very high.
We ask that all riders make a £1 donation each time they participate in a Saturday club ride, all of the proceeds from this go to our nominated charity. Free Tea and Coffee is available before and after the rides.
The club also has various social events throughout the year; many of these are also open to members’ friends and family.
Our History
It all started by Nigel Hill the owner of Sidcup Cycles leading out a small group of friends and customers of the shop on Saturday mornings.
Just informal rides for 20-30 miles, however word soon got out and the numbers continued to grow, eventually there where often 20 to 30 riders each week in the summer. The decision was therefore taken to form a club.
Team Sidcup Cycles was formed in 2011 and since its formation the club has grown in many ways, there are now over 150 members. However, the ethos has remained very much the same. Friendship and fun are still at the heart of the club as is the charitable side. The club nominates a charity each year and all the money raised through the club events and tea tin is donated. In 2016 the charity was the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance, in 2017 The Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice.
